Get what you deserve

The governance, the environment around you and many more things around you can only be as good as you. We live in a society and need to understand the dynamics of the interrelationships between human and human, human and machine, human and nature, ,etc. When people complain about the state of law and order in a particular state, when they complain about the frequent bomb blasts that rock a particular Indian metro, when they complain about the deteriorating communal relations in the society, I feel like answering with only one statement: ‘You get what you deserve’.

Recently, in the broad daylight, some group of men stabbed a youth in the presence of tens and hundreds of fellow citizens in Coimbatore. The people watching this gruesome incident were so insensitive that leave apart saving the person from the attackers and catching the attackers, they did not even bother to take the stabbed person to the hospital at the earliest. What these men and women who were mute spectators of this incident fail to realize is that a person who is near and dear to them could also face a similar situation in the not so distant future.

Many people appreciate the resilience of the Mumbaikars after the blasts. You will find news headlines like ‘Mumbai back to normalcy’ and so on. This is not a news to celebrate. The Mumbaikars, residents of the financial hub of this country in the din of making money cannot find time to take precautions. In the busy streets of Mumbai, it would take quite some time even if some one were to be recognized as dead.

Politics commonly called the dirt or filth of this nation by the elite is also something created by we fellow countrymen because the elite do not find enough time to vote in the elections, because the elite do not consider it worth to fight for the sake of the welfare of the billions of fellow citizens. It is very appropriate to end this article with the talisman of Gandhiji. “I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man [woman] whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him [her]. Will he [she] gain anything by it? Will it restore him [her] to a control over his [her] own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to swaraj [freedom] for the hungry and spiritually starving millions?
Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away.”

Essence in a line: Camaraderie is the need of the hour to tackle the many problems facing humanity.
